India's leading independent publishing house Vani Prakashan Group has kick-started its sixty years celebration from Kerala. For many, this may seem like an unusual choice for a publishing house that is primarily known for its publishing list of modern Hindi literature. "My father and founder of Vani Prakashan Group got inspired to be a publisher in Kerala. He used to visit the state from the early 1960s", says Arun Mahehswari, chairman and managing director of the group. The publisher of M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri, O. N. V. Kurup, G. Sankara Kurup, Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, A. Arvindakshan, Tankamani Amma et all through Bharatiya Jnanpith whose publishing division is not a part of the group, Maheshwari says that the academic scholarship in Kerala has always been an inspiration.

Vani has begun the celebrations with the core gesture of humbly 'giving back' to the literary world. "We will honor sixty public intellectuals throughout the year from various national languages to pay respect to their work in the field of writing, translation, editing, bookselling and publishing. In Kerala, the highest honor- Vani Sahitya Bhushan Award has been given to Prof. A. Arvindakshan (former pro-VC, Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University) for his standing journey in translation and writing.  The second highest honor Vani Hindi Alankar Samman has been given to Dr. Jayachandran R. (Director School of Indian languages and Vice Chairman of the Credit and Semester System at the University of Kerala), Dr. Suma S. (Associate Professor, Government Arts and Science College, University of Calicut) and Prof. S. R. Jayshree (Head of department of Hindi, Kerala University).  The Vani Samman has been conferred upon an independent bookseller and translator from Kerala, Dr. Girija Kumari", he informed.

"Vani must take the lead in translating more Malayalam literature into Hindi to make it reach out to other Indian languages. I am honored to receive the Vani Sahitya Bhushan Samman. It is like getting recognition through your own family. It is special", said Prof. A. Arvindakshan.

"Where there is Vani, there is Prakash. We wish Vani Prakashan Group power and strength in their 60th year", Dr. Mohanan Kunnummel, Vice -Chancellor, University of Kerala while presiding over the samman samaroh.

"Vani is like a co-passenger and friend in our intellectual journey. My students and I pursue critical issues that are carefully published by Vani. We have a long way to go", said Prof. S.R. Jayshree, head of the department of Hindi at Kerala University.

"Let's not leave books behind in this digital age. Let's try and read more and more books to remain a civil society", urged Prof. Tankamani Amma, retired professor of Hindi, Kerala University.

Vani Prakashan Group is the only Hindi publishing house to win the National Award for publication of books on Indian Cinema, 'The Swarn Kamal' by former president of India late Dr. Pranab Mukherjee. Also, it is the recipient of the Distinguished Publisher Award by the Federation of Indian Publishers and Business Excellence Award by the Oxford Business College,  Oxford, United Kingdom.
