on Sep 20, 2022
Bloomsbury India, a global publishing company publishing the highest quality fiction, non-fiction, children’s, academic, business, and professional books, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Bloomsbury India was formally launched in 2012 and since then has published over a thousand six hundred India-origin titles. It is perhaps the only publisher with large and growing Trade as well as Academic publishing programs. Apart from achieving phenomenal sales of established bestselling authors like J.K. Rowling, William Dalrymple, Shiv Khera, Daniel Goleman, and Madeline Miller, Bloomsbury India has published a wide variety of highest quality and successful titles including the recent bestselling books of J. Sai Deepak. The company now publishes over two hundred new titles every year.
“When we started in 2012 we were a band of six entrepreneurs. There was multi-tasking, firefighting, overcoming odds, and now we are a team of 50, have a smart new office with sufficient expansion possibilities, and have talented and committed staff passionate about making us one of the most respected, valued, high-growth companies in our sector. We have succeeded in making a place for ourselves among the large already established publishing groups, we do not have barriers in attracting talent and authors, and we are looked at as a company to be trusted. Despite all the challenges we have established a fundamentally strong company which is here to last and which will offer a secure and profitable long-term growth path,” said Rajiv Beri, Managing Director, Bloomsbury India.
Bloomsbury India’s list includes Nobel Prize winners Abdulrazak Gurnah and Wole Soyinka, Booker winners Michael Ondaatje and George Saunders, and other award-winning and bestselling authors—J.K. Rowling, Madeline Miller, Kamila Shamsie, Mohammed Hanif, William Dalrymple, Khaled Hosseini, Sarah J. Maas, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Neil Gaiman, to name only a few. Its list of Indian authors includes a host of established writers and fresh talent we would be seeing a lot more of—Shiv Khera, Vikas Khanna, J. Sai Deepak, Tishani Doshi, Diksha Basu, Rituparna Chatterjee, Nitin Sekar, Shrabani Basu, Mira Sethi, Nitin Gokhale, Ami Ganatra, Anjum Hasan, Karan Thapar, Sonu Nigam, Adnan Sami, G.J.V. Prasad, Sugata Bose, Rakhshanda Jalil, and Rita Kothari.
“We have commissioned some of the finest non-fiction in the recent past and fiction that will make an international impact. We look forward to bringing you more of the best new writing that reflects the vibrance of the Indian and international scene,” said Krishan Chopra, Editor-in-Chief, Bloomsbury India.
