Uttarakhand Govt on School Exams: As per the latest media reports, the Uttarakhand Government is planning to scrap the Final Exams for Class 9 and 11 students who are currently studying in Government Schools as their studies have been impacted majorly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Final Decision in this regards is expected to be taken soon by the state government. According to a statement issued by School Education Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, the Education Department of the State Government is reviewing the progress of online education in the state, especially for students of government schools and the final decision will be taken based on the findings of the review. Independent Decision by Private Schools Speaking to Media Persons, Ms Sundaram said that “Proper studies of both class 9 and 11 were affected this year due to Covid-19 pandemic. Online mode of education could not be conducted properly for all students given the topography of the state and constraints due to that. It would be unfair to the students to test them without teaching them the whole syllabus. We have not taken any final decision yet but the options are being considered.” She also added that the decision about holding final exam for government schools will be taken by the Education Department, but private schools have been given the independence conduct the final exams or not, depending on if online classes have been conducted regularly for them. Schools Reopen for Class 10 and 12 Earlier, the Uttarakhand State Government decided to allow reopening of schools for Class 10 and 12 in the state after a gap of nearly 9 months, on 2nd November 2020. The reopening decision was taken keeping in mind the upcoming board exams for the High School and Intermediate Class students. The state government has also issued detailed SOPs and Guidelines for the reopening of schools in the state. According to the SOP the school managements were asked to follow conditions like sanitisation of school premises before and after classes daily, arrangements be made in schools for sanitisers, handwash, thermal screening, first aid, etc.
