Frontlist | 39th Edition of Agartala Book Fair to be Held from February 26
Agartala: The 39th edition of Agartala book fair is all set to start from February 26. The theme for this year’s book fair is – “Amader Tripura, Sresta Tripura,” which basically means that “Our Tripura, Best Tripura.”
The Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Jishnu Deb Barma announced that the book fair will be organised this time at the Hapania International Fair ground in Agartala. Last year, the Tripura Publishers Guild opposed and boycotted the government’s decision to organise an event of joy and excitement for the book lovers. They boycotted the event as it was held at Hapania, which was outside the city of Agartala. The Tripura Publishers Guild have appealed the government to rethink their decision this time.
Another good news for the book lovers as the deputy chief minister said that a huge discount will be given in this year’s book fair. The fair will have books for different age groups, and genres. The participant book stalls will be considered in some way regarding the place, rent and electricity of the place they will be using. Debbarma further gave the publishers of Bangladesh, Guwahati and Kolkata to participate in the book fair.
The recently held Guwahati Book Fair has scripted a number of firsts – it’s the first book fair that has given succour to bookstall owners after the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, it’s first low-budget book fair to have set a record response and a book by a driver has been judged as the best seller.
The 33rd Guwahati Book Fair kicked off on December 30, 2020, and concluded on January 10, 2021. The book fair was held at Assam Engineering Institute field at Chandmari, Guwahati. Notably, the event took place this year after a gap of two years. Several books were released during the 12-day long book fair.
