OUP author and English Language Teaching (ELT) expert, Gayatri Khanna, demonstrated interactive methods to make English language learning accessible and relatable in the Indian context. 

She also introduced techniques to achieve NCF competencies and learning outcomes for English language proficiency.

Delhi, December 16, 2023:  Oxford University Press India (OUP), a department of the University of Oxford, organized a teacher training program on ‘Decoding NCF for the English Classroom,’ led by distinguished ELT expert and author Gayatri Khanna for the teachers of Delhi. As an integrated education services provider, OUP released the revised edition of the interactive English course, ‘New Pathways,’ in alignment with NCF curricular goals. Ms Khanna introduced a learner-centric and holistic pedagogical approach that can transform learning into an exciting and joyful journey.

Reiterating the goals of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF 2023), the teacher training program aimed at equipping teachers with techniques that can provide a holistic and authentic learning experience in classrooms. With an emphasis on experiential learning, art integration, cross-curricular and real-life connections, the workshop intended at developing critical thinking, cross-curricular connections, multilingualism, and exercises to promote a sense of rootedness and pride in India.

Ms Khanna, author of the popular English coursebook series such as New Pathways, Grammar Scholar, and resource person for developing content for CBSE and NCERT, led an intensive session on various aspects of NEP 2020 and NCF 2023, providing teachers the tools to confidently steer English instruction in consonance with the latest guidelines.

Instructing the teachers at the workshop, Ms Gayatri Khanna said, “English language education should help students build proficiencies such as analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Our goal is to instil in students an enduring love for languages, an appreciation for cultural diversity, and the ability to comprehend the world independently by developing the essential habit of reading and the indispensable skill of communication.”

The interactive learning pedagogy of OUP’s coursebooks is aligned with NCF 2023 and includes digital resources like animations, audios, and activities that make the learning track immersive and engaging, helping children study and improve their speaking, listening, writing, and language skills, which are core competencies endorsed by the NCF.
