LONDON: Lance Price, the author of a book about PM Modi’s rise to power, was the man behind the Labour byelection campaign that got Batley and Spen MP Kim Leadbeater elected last week.

A leaflet promoting Leadbeater sparked a row in the UK for bearing photos of the Indian PM and UK PM Boris Johnson along with the messages: “The risk of voting for anyone but Labour is clear” and “A PM who is silent on human rights abuses in Kashmir”. Price, former special adviser to ex-PM Tony Blair, was not only at the nerve centre of Leadbeater’s campaign but has now been appointed her chief adviser. Price flew to India many times, had exclusive access to Modi’s inner circle and met Modi personally as part of his research for the 2015 book ‘The Modi Effect’.
