6 Movies Based On Books To Stream For An Easy Dose Of Literature
There are a plethora of amazing movies under the umbrella of Indian cinema. These wonderful movies have taken inspiration from many things, from real-world events and people to other movies from different cultures as well. Books have always provided inspiration and entertainment, so it is not a surprise that as the modes of entertainment grew to include video, books also evolved to match consumer expectations. There are a lot of movies out there that are loosely (if not fully) adapted from books. Here are some excellent movies that you should watch. As these are adaptations of excellent books, you can for sure count this as reading. (We won't tell if you don't.)

1. Omkara

This brilliant and underrated film is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, ‘Othello.’ It has a banging OST and wonderful acting.Indian cinema has used Shakespeare for a lot of critically acclaimed movies like Haider and Maqbool, which are amazing cinematic adaptations of plays like ‘Hamlet’ and ‘Macbeth.’

Shakespeare's plays have provided years of inspiration to the world of films, and this movie is a wonderful example of how old ideas and plots are reimagined into a modern world. This fun teenage drama is an adaptation of the comedy, ‘The Taming Of The Shrew.’

3. The Guide

Based on R.K. Narayan’s famous novel, ‘The Guide,’ this brilliant movie starred Dev Anand And Waheeda Rehman. Even though the ending of the movie is not true to the book, the treatment of the plot and story, as well as the soundtrack, creates a cinematic masterpiece.

4. Saat Khoon Maaf

This Priyanka Chopra starrer is based on a short story by Ruskin Bond called ‘Susanna’s Seven Husbands.’ While the movie did not do as well as expected at the box-office, it is still a great way to consume the brilliance of Ruskin Bond’s story. It is a sensual and scintillating tale.

5. Pride And Prejudice And Zombies

If you are in the mood for something a little more campy and fun, this is the perfect contender. Also based on a 19th century novel, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen, this amazingly entertaining movie takes the liberty of changing the narrative just a little to add zombies to the story! This movie will keep you glued to the laptop.

6. Kai Po Che!

Based on ‘The Three Mistakes Of My Life,’ a novel by Chetan Bhagat, Kai Po Che is a brilliant film that is sensitive, funny, and sweet. Starring  Amrita Puri, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkumar Rao, and Amit Sadh, the film soundtrack and a plot that is very well done. There are tons of other brilliant and fun movies that have been based on books. From fun flicks like Warm Bodies to serious movies like The Last Lear, there are a number of really good movies you should add to your watch-list.  Make sure you pick good books and better movies to keep you entertained throughout this lockdown.
