First Saudi Women-Led Publishing House Empowers Female Authors

According to a report on state television, a group of women banded together to start Saudi Arabia's first publishing business, operated entirely by women.

According to Saudi television Al Ekhbariya, the house, established four years ago by a group of Saudi women, has taken part in a book fair in the Eastern Province.

The company produces and prints books written by women.

Nawara Al Maghrabi, a co-founder who recalled the house's beginnings, said on television: "My partner in the initiative happened to be in the US getting ready for such a project. I was also working on the same thing in the kingdom. We met and spoke about the idea.

Afterwards, they started the first publishing firm founded by Saudi women, according to Al Maghrabi.

The residence supports aspiring female authors.

Female novelist Fatma Al Baqshi stated, "I chose this house because 90% of its crew are women." She listed female designers, authors, and illustrators as some employees.

As part of significant changes occurring in the country, Saudi Arabia has actively undertaken a campaign to empower women in several spheres of society in recent years.

The monarchy lifted its long-standing prohibition on women driving in 2018, the first time in history.

Another action that increased women's empowerment was Saudi Arabia's relaxing of long-standing restrictions on them by allowing women to apply for passports and travel without the consent of a male guard.

11 Saudi envoys, including two female ambassadors, took the oath of office in front of King Salman bin Abdulaziz in January.
