Beijing International Book Fair 2026 Focuses on AI and IP Licensing

BEIJING, China – The Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) 40 will be placing a spotlight on artificial intelligence and IP licensing at the top of the international publishing agenda when the event opens on June 17 – 21, 2026.

One of the biggest publishing events in the world, the Beijing International Book Fair 2026 is expected to attract more than 1,700 participants from 82 countries and territories across the globe.

One of the highlights of this year's edition of the Beijing International Book Fair is the launch of a specialized IP Licensing Zone, showcasing the changing face of the publishing sector and its increased interest in turning books, characters, comics, and digital content into multi-platform IP assets.

Theme of artificial intelligence (AI) will be dominant during the event, where different discussions on this topic will take place, focusing on the effects of AI usage in editorial workflow processes, content creation, metadata management, translation, distribution, and reader engagement. Industry representatives will share their experiences regarding opportunities and issues that arise with using AI within the publishing value chain.

There will also be a special Internet Publishing Joint Pavilion created by BIBF to highlight technological innovations within the publishing industry, specifically showing how the use of AI helped to enhance publisher operations as well as expand their audiences.

Another important focus for the exhibition will be related to children's publishing and other entertainment materials, which includes comic books, animations, and games. Organizers promote cross-industry relations in this sector through initiatives like ComicHub.

This comes at a time when China's book market is experiencing many changes. Social commerce and content-focused e-commerce platforms have become very important to discover and sell books. Publishers need new ways to engage readers and promote their book products, making the Beijing International Book Fair 2026 more relevant.

According to observers from the industry, the topics discussed, which include AI integration, intellectual property commercialization, and digital content ecosystem, are not confined within China but reflect global trends in the publishing industry. With more and more publishers looking for growth opportunities, the fair will serve as an important place where discussions can help shape the future of the industry.

As publishers incorporate more and more AI technologies into their operations and intellectual property becomes the most important business asset for publishers, the Beijing International Book Fair 2026 will become even more relevant than ever before.
