Wedding Featuring Books on Social Justice Amazes Guests

Most wedding events revolve around eating, visiting with loved ones, and meeting new people. But, a young man from Zaheerabad gave his wedding celebration an entirely new dimension and is getting kudos for his reasonably original concept.

With the aid of a neighbourhood, a group called Samata Sainik Dal, the young man, B. Vishnu, a worker for a private firm, put up a book kiosk at the wedding venue. It stood out amid all the pomp and glitter, as was to be anticipated.

The presence of the stand at the wedding on March 10 startled a few attendees. They looked through the available literature out of curiosity. There were portraits of world leaders and biographies of well-known people. Whether they were book lovers or not, several guests even bought a book or two to give the newlyweds.

According to Mr Vishnu, the stand's purpose was to spread information about B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a renowned advocate for social and economic justice.

Books on Buddhism and reformers like Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule were also available. While people would not actively search for these books during an exhibition, if we made them available at a social event, they could be inspired to buy them. Almost 1,500 volumes were sold during the wedding's after-party, he continued.

"This concept ought to become famous. According to Sridhar, a guest at the wedding, children will be encouraged to pick up books at events.
