Tiruchi to Host Book Fair

From September 16 to 26, a book fair will be held on the grounds of St.Vestry John's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in the city of Tiruchi.

Collector M.Pradeep Kumar stated that the book fair would have over 200 stalls and over 150 publishers would take part in the event.

The fair would include exclusive stalls highlighting Tamil Nadu's role in the freedom movement, the Keezhadi excavations, and Tiruchi's heritage, as well as stalls for writers, women, children, and cinema. Every day and cultural programs would be held in the evenings.

In conjunction with the fair, the district administration intends to launch a 'Read Tiruchi' campaign to encourage the reading habit. Rallies and education programs are being planned in cities, towns, and villages.

Mr.Kumar stated that 'book walls' would be installed in government offices and public places to encourage people to donate books, which would get distributed to rural libraries.

Meanwhile, according to Collector T.Prabhushankar, the book fair in Karur, which ended on Monday, drew over 1.35 lakh visitors.

During the fair, which began on August 19, books worth over 1.35 crore were sold. The fair, which featured 115 stalls, was organized by the district administration in collaboration with The Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India.

The district administration had spent Rs.25 lakhs on books for government schools and libraries supported by the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi scheme. Nearly 3,300 books worth approximately Rs. 1.75 lakh were donated.
