The 47th Kolkata International Book Fair will be launched by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday. Final preparations are underway at the Salt Lake Central Park fairground. Books have already arrived at several large stands, and final touches are being applied to the outlets.

Officials from the Publishers and Booksellers Guild stated that the fair will feature the most participation from book publishers and small periodicals, with approximately 1,000 exhibitors.

Sudhangshu Sekhar Dey, Guild honorary general secretary, stated that approximately 10,000 new books are expected to be produced this time. "We are expecting an average of 10 new books to be published in each of the book stalls," added Dey.

The book fair will begin tomorrow, with the CM inaugurating it.

"There will be tightened security measures with CCTV surveillance, police deployment, fire tenders, bikes and fire services officials," a government source stated.

During the book fair, a tree planting ceremony will take place for the first time. "As book publishers, we use a lot of paper, which means we cut down a large number of trees.

For the first time, we will hold a tree planting ceremony to give back to the environment," guild president Tridib Chatterjee stated.

To keep up with last year's fair, which was dubbed the greenest in recent memory, the guild is encouraging everyone to bring jute bags or plastic bags measuring more than 120 microns.
