Susan Weinberg, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Perseus Books, has been appointed as the Executive Vice President and Publisher of the Workman Publishing division, replacing Dan Reynolds, who will retire at the end of the year, according to Hachette Book Group CEO Michael Pietsch.

Susan Weinberg joined the Hachette Book Group in 2016 after HBG acquired the Perseus Books Group, where she had previously served as Group Publisher and PublicAffairs publisher since 2005.

She has been in charge of the Perseus division's five label groups for many years, and during that time, Avalon Travel, Basic Books, Hachette Books, PublicAffairs, and Running Press have all witnessed tremendous development and financial success.

She will use these insights in her new position as Workman's imprints' leader. Stacy Lellos, vice president and publisher of Workman Kids and Algonquin Young Readers, will report to Susan. Rebecca Carlisle, vice president of marketing and publicity, Lia Ronnen, vice president and publisher of Workman Adult and Artisan, Page Edmunds, vice president and publisher of Workman Calendars, Betsy Gleick, vice president and publisher of Algonquin Books, Deborah Balmuth, vice president and publisher of Storey Publishing, Kathryn Juergens, vice president and publisher of Timber Press, and David Schiller, group creative director.

The Perseus Books division will be reconfigured as part of this change. Basic Books, Seal Press, PublicAffairs, and Bold Type Books are all part of the recently established Basic Books Group, which is headed by SVP and Publisher Lara Heimert.

Clive Priddle, VP, and Publisher of PublicAffairs and Bold Type Books will report to Lara, who remains the publisher of Basic and Seal Press. Avalon Travel, Black Dog & Leventhal, Running Press, Running Press Minis, Running Press Studio, and Running Press Kids are all part of the newly formed Running Press Group, which is headed by Kristin Kiser, who has been promoted to SVP and Publisher. Bill Newlin, VP, and Publisher of Avalon Travel will report to Kristin, who will continue to be the publisher of Running Press and Black Dog & Leventhal. Lara, Kristin, and Mary Ann Naples, VP and Publisher of Hachette Books, will serve on the Executive Management Board of HBG and report to Michael Pietsch. On January 1, 2023, these modifications will take effect.

Lara, who continues to be the publisher of Basic and Seal Press, will get reports from Clive Priddle, VP and Publisher of PublicAffairs and Bold Type Books. The recently established Running Press Group, led by Kristin Kiser, who has been elevated to SVP and Publisher, consists of Avalon Travel, Black Dog & Leventhal, Running Press, Running Press Minis, Running Press Studio, and Running Press Kids. Kristin will continue to be the publisher of Running Press and Black Dog & Leventhal, while Bill Newlin, VP, and Publisher of Avalon Travel, will report to her. On the Executive Management Board of HBG, Lara, Kristin, and Mary Ann Naples, VP and Publisher of Hachette Books, will sit and will answer to Michael Pietsch. On January 1, 2023, these modifications will take effect.

"I'm happy that Susan Weinberg has eagerly accepted to take on this crucial responsibility," Michael Pietsch stated. Susan is renowned for her drive, persistence, and perspicacity, as well as for her incredibly compassionate leadership and strategic approach to our company's operations.

She was instrumental in integrating Workman into HBG's systems as the publishing lead, therefore she is well-known to her counterparts at Workman. Susan is thrilled to collaborate with Workman's phenomenally innovative publishers since she greatly admires their books, traditions, and publishing teams. I am confident that she will support the Workman publishing initiatives as they integrate into HBG and flourish.

"This leadership shift offers the Perseus publishers and their teams' tremendous opportunities for development and growth. I'm excited to collaborate with Lara, Kristin, and Mary Ann and am pleased that they have joined the HBG Executive Management Board.

"The attitude of independent publishing at Workman is very familiar to me from my years at Perseus," Susan Weinberg continued. I'm pleased with the contributions made by the Perseus publishers and their teams to HBG, and I'm thrilled and energized as I turn my attention to Workman and commit to doing everything in my power to support their expansion and success.

Dan Reynolds said, "Knowing that Susan will lead the Workman Publishing division, building upon all that we've accomplished at Workman and continuing the wonderful tradition of Peter Workman, gives me great calm and happiness. Susan's leadership, zeal, and empathy have stood out to me. She also has a rich background in backlist publishing, which is what makes Workman tick. I'm excited to collaborate closely with Susan to ensure the smoothest leadership transition possible.
