Punjab schools and colleges latest news: On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, the Punjab government extended the restrictions to curb the COVID-19 pandemic and it has ordered that schools and colleges in the state will remain shut till April 10, 2021. Earlier, the Punjab government had ordered the schools and colleges in the state to close down till March 31, 2021.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has also instructed the Health Department to increase the number of vaccination sites so that the priority categories can be identified and taken care of at an urgent basis, as per a report by india.com.
The COVID-19 situation in the state will be thoroughly reviewed after April 10, 2021 and then the decision regarding the reopening of schools and other educational institutions will be taken.
Schools and educational institutions across the country were shut down in March last year when the coronavirus pandemic first broke out in the country. As situation normalized, schools and educational institutions were reopened in various states. However, the recent upsurge in the number of COVID-19 cases has forced several state governments to close down their schools and educational institutions. These instances of closing down schools and colleges are bringing back the memories of the initial days of the pandemic.
In Punjab, all deputy commissioners and civil surgeons were asked to identify places, such as police lines, colleges and universities, big industrial units, bus stands, and railway stations and others for setting up mobile COVID-19 vaccination centres to speed up the process of vaccination.
Notably, the latest data shows the UK strain of the virus to be the most prevalent in the state.
The Punjab Chief Minister also directed that the patients under home isolation should be strictly monitored. For vaccination, he stated that any photo identification will be sufficient to prove eligibility.
The decision regarding the reopening of schools and colleges in the state will be taken on the basis of a review after April 10, 2021
