At a ceremony in London, Irish novelist Paul Lynch's "Prophet Song" was crowned the winner of the Booker Prize 2023, defeating London-based Indian-origin author Chetna Maroo's debut novel "Western Lane."

Lynch, 46, won for his novel, which depicts a dystopian image of Ireland under the clutches of authoritarianism and is described by the author as "an attempt at radical empathy." "Prophet Song," set in Dublin, depicts the narrative of a family dealing with a terrible new world in which the democratic principles they have grown accustomed to begin to fade.
