National Award to Teachers 2020: MHRD extends deadline for application till July 15

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has extended the deadline for submission of applications for the National Award for Teachers 2020 or NAT 2020, to July 15. Earlier, the application window was closed on July 6.

Teachers in both public and private schools can apply for the NAT 2020 award. NAT is given to teachers and heads of schools working in government and private primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools.

Eligible teachers can apply from a mobile phone or through an online portal- nationalawardstoteachers.mhrd.gov.in. Visit the official website and click on the 'Login or Register' tab to apply for the prize. This year shortlisted candidates will get certificates by the District Selection Committee and State/UT Selection Committee.

This award is given to teachers every year on the occasion of Teachers' Day. Retired teachers will also be able to participate in this process, but only those teachers who have served a part of the calendar year (at least for four months i.e. up to April 30 in the year to which National Awards relate) will be able to apply.

Teachers applying for the award will be assessed with two criteria - an objective criterion and a performance-based criterion.

Objective criteria: 

Each of the teachers who have applied for NAT will be given a score against the objective criteria. These criteria are given 20 weightage out of 100.

Performance-based criteria:

Eligible teachers will be rewarded based on their performance, including learning outcomes, their innovative experiments, organization of extra- and co-curricular activities, use of teaching-learning materials, social mobility, experimental learning assurance, unique ways to ensure physical education to students and etc. this particular criterion has given a weightage of 80 out of 100.

Each nominee selected by the State Committee and the OSC will appear before an independent jury at the national level. The jury shall select 45 names from the list and two teachers in Special Category for differently-abled teachers etc.
