Books valued over ₹1 crore were sold at the Madurai Book Festival that ended on Monday. More than 1.5 lakh people from near and far thronged the book festival that was organized for over 10 days at Tamukkam Convention Centre.
The press release stated that the district administration and the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) organized the book festival.
Chief guest of the valediction, author Bhaskar Sakthi, spoke about the experiences of book festivals.
Books worth over ₹1 crore were sold during the Madurai Book Festival, which came to an end on Monday. More than 1.5 lakh people from near and far attended the book festival, which was conducted for over 10 days at Tamukkam Convention Centre.
As per a press release, the book festival was hosted by the district administration and the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).
Chief guest of the valediction, writer Bhaskar Sakthi, spoke about his experiences regarding book festivals.
232 book stalls were organized at the book festival for the benefit of the readers. Over 1,000 books were given by individuals during the festival. A donation box was placed at the main hall entrance, where individuals could donate books. The donated books would be distributed in the government schools and libraries.
There were cultural programmes and daily debates with big names. Students from schools and colleges joined in large numbers.
Renowned authors and speakers took part in the book festival. They expressed their view about the event on the last day. Certificates were awarded to the students and artistes who took part in the event.
A temporary hall exhibiting the history of Madurai and the mobile planetarium were the other attractions during the book festival.
