The Kerala Sahithya Akademi will hold an international literature festival, bringing together writers and cultural figures from Pakistan, Palestine, France, Poland, England, Latin America, Nepal, Israel, and several Indian states.

The Akademi president, K Satchidanandan, announced on Saturday that the International Literature Festival of Kerala (ILFK) is the state's first event organised by a public sector institution.

The festival will be hosted at four venues in Thrissur, including the Akademi campus and Town Hall, from January 28 to February 3.

Satchidanandan stated that the Akademi agreed to host such despite the fact that the literature was growing more international through a variety of factors such as translations, anthologies, and literary festivals. He stated that as many as 107 programmes including literature, music, films, drama, artwork, science, and media have already been organised as part of the ILFK. Throughout the festival, there will be debates and presentations on themes relevant to these areas. The festival will also feature a large display with participation from 80 publishers.

Every day, there will be cultural programmes following the daytime events.

The ILFK is anticipated to feature international speakers such as Gabriel Rosenstock, Najwan Darwish, Les Wicks, Amir Or, Francis Combes, and Tulasi Diwasa, among others.

Indian writers and lecturers include Ashok Vajpeyi, Prakash Raj, T M Krishna, Anita Nair, Prabhat Patnaik, and H S Shivaprakash, among others.

The festival's flag will be hoisted by writer Sarah Joseph, and it will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
