India Post Launches 'Gyan Post' to Boost Book Access

The Ministry of Communications has declared the introduction of 'Gyan Post,' a new service by India Post to make the distribution of educational, social, cultural, and religious books cheaper in the country. The service will be launched on May 1, 2025, and will be offered by all departmental post offices across the country.

Declaring the project, Communications and Development of North Eastern Regions Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia reiterated the importance of education for the government. The service boasts a cost scheme to facilitate increased accessibility, as rates start from as little as ₹20 for packets of a maximum 300 grams weight. For larger parcels, a maximum of 5 kilograms, the highest rate charged will be ₹100.

To be eligible for 'Gyan Post', materials should be educational and non-commercial in content. Publications for business purposes or with advertisements, other than incidental announcements or lists of books, are not eligible. Every item should prominently show the name of the printer or publisher according to prescribed guidelines.

This scheme is an ongoing effort of India Post to narrow the educational gaps by increasing accessibility to learning resources, especially in rural and inaccessible areas.
