Greece has been announced as the inaugural Market of Honour for BolognaBookPlus 2023.

The Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports and BolognaBookPlus will commemorate the Greek general publishing sector during the event from March 6–9.

A three-day exposition, training sessions, and conferences called BolognaBookPlus were introduced in 2020 by BCBF/BolognaFiere in partnership with the Italian Publishers Association (AIE) to address a wider publishing audience.

The Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports will host a variety of professional and cultural events during BolognaBookPlus in collaboration with the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, Publishers' Associations, and the entire Greek book industry, according to the organizers.

Greek deputy culture minister Nicholas Yatromanolakis stated: "Showcasing the vibrant Greek literary market as the inaugural BolognaBookPlus Market of Honour in 2023 is a great opportunity to share with publishing experts and the world the wealth of Greek letters and the multitude of contemporary Greek literary voices, as well as a broader cultural program that will highlight both Greece's rich cultural heritage and the current scene.

We think the time is ideal after just launching GreekLit, a translation grant program. BBPlus guest director Jacks Thomas and BCBF director Elena Pasoli will be working closely with us to create a fantastic networking, business, and cultural experience.

Thomas called it "an exciting moment in BolognaBookPlus' development" and expressed his excitement to have the chance to highlight the Greek book industry, which he called "a powerhouse."

The fact that Greece is bringing its general publishing industry to the world stage at Bologna 2023 in the same year that the GreekLit translation grant was launched is timely and significant given the country's illustrious — and obvious — long tradition of writing, culture, and exports to other countries.

I want to express my gratitude to the Ministry and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture for working with BolognaBookPlus on this first of many Markets of Honour.
