Since the Sumerian civilization developed writing 5,300 years ago, people have been documenting their experiences, knowledge, culture, study, historical events, and even adventures.

Books incorporating a variety of materials have been produced over time in an ordered fashion, eventually leading to the discovery of paper in 1450 and the creation of the printing machine.

We had the opportunity to attend the 32nd Doha International Book Fair, which was held between June 12 and 21 this year with the theme "With Reading We Progress" and met all of the expectations of a public interested in spending time enlarging their knowledge in an exceptionally well-exhibited manner.

Under the sponsorship of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who also attended the event and said: "I am pleased with the diversity and richness that I have been able to see during my visit to the Doha International Book Fair," the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassin Al Thani inaugurated this international event.

We had the distinction of being welcomed by H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, the minister of culture, who graciously showed us much of what was on display at this cultural gathering. We discovered that it started in 1972 and has continued every year since.

The expo included a range of books that inspired attendees to read and learn, and it was hosted at the elegant Doha Convention & Exhibition Centre. Additionally, it featured poetry readings and seminars, and it highlighted the participation of the country's youth.

A success story for Qatar, demonstrating the growth of a more educated and informed citizenry and positioning the nation as a major cultural centre in the region.

The expo included pavilions from participating nations as well as priceless publications from independent and international publishers.

We learned a range of things from the authors of the bibliographic works that urge us to keep up the promotion of our efforts to improve our ties with the State of Qatar and promote collaboration between us.
