Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Prof Ranjit Tamuli has been suspended by Assam Governor  Jagdish Mukhi on Thursday. Prof Ranjit Tamuli was suspended as the Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University after a fact finding committee found him to be involved in financial anomalies of funds of the Varsity. Prof RNS Yadav has been made Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of Dibrugarh University. Furthermore, Governor Jagdish Mukhi has ordered formation of a high-level enquiry committee probe functioning of the Dibrugarh University over the last five years. The probe to be conducted by the high-level enquiry committee shall focus on: “Financial transaction and financial administration, corruptions, discipline, misuse of funds, misuse of powers among other aspects of University Governance”. “The Governor of Assam in the capacity as Chancellor of the Dibrugarh University has placed Prof Ranjit Tamuli, Vice-Chancellor, Dibrugarh University under suspension, with immediate effect, until further orders, in order to ensure that witnesses are not influenced/coerced in any way and material records of the University are not tampered with in any manner whatsoever and in order to ensure a fair enquiry,” statement from the Raj Bhawan read. Earlier in the week, Dibrugarh University registrar Hari Chandra Mahanta and deputy registrar (finance & accounts) Diganta Borah were suspended for their alleged involvement in the financial anomalies in the university. The teaching and student fraternity as well as the employees’ body of the university have been staging protests against the alleged financial scam by the vice-chancellor.
