Colombia will be the guest of honor at the 2022 Seoul International Book Fair (SIBF) next month to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and the South American country, the event's organizers announced Monday.

The country's largest annual book fair, SIBF, will open on June 1 for a five-day run at the Convention and Exhibition Center in southern Seoul with the theme "One Small Step."

During the five-day event, Colombia will display its culture and literature under the theme "Colombia: creative, diverse, and fraternal," according to the Korean Publishers Association and the Colombian Embassy in Korea.

Around 30 Colombian writers will host discussion sessions, book exhibitions, and cultural shows, while the book fair will also feature compilations of Colombian novels authored by 10 young Colombian writers and poetry by 12 poets.

The Colombian pavilion will feature works by Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez, including "One Hundred Years of Solitude" (1967) and "Love in the Time of Cholera" (1985).

In order to boost bilateral contacts and collaboration in the publishing business, the two countries decided to participate as honorary guests at book fairs sponsored by each other in order to commemorate the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.
