This year's Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) has been delayed and will now take place in November.

The fair was supposed to take place this week, between August 24th and 28th, at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. The BIBF committee stated on August 22nd that the event has been rescheduled for November 24th to 27th at the same location.

"We would like to apologise for the difficulty caused by the adjustments to the book fair, and express to you our sincere appreciation for your ongoing understanding and support," it said in a statement. We can't wait to meet you at BIBF!"

The fair was similarly postponed last year, with the event being cancelled the day before it was scheduled to take place due to the outbreak of coronavirus in the city, causing issues for UK publishers who were planning to attend. It eventually took place from the 14th to the 18th of September, both in person and online.

Under President Xi Jinping's zero-Covid policy, China has experienced a number of localised lockdowns and mass testing programmes in recent months. The Shanghai Book Fair has been postponed three times due to coronavirus. It was supposed to take place in November 2021, but it was put back to March 20th to 22nd this year, then again to July 22nd to 24th. It has now been rescheduled to run from November 18th to November 20th, skipping a year. It will be hosted at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre, as usual.
