Bangla Academy Postpones Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 Amid Election Directive

In a statement, the academy stated that the decision was made after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a directive on 21 September that the fair should be held after the next national election.

Following the views of the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association (Bapus) and others, the earlier set schedule has been put on hold, it added.

It further stated that the new dates of the country's largest annual book fair will be disclosed later in consultation with publishers and stakeholders.

Earlier on 18 September, Bangla Academy announced Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 would be organized from 17 December 2025 to 17 January 2026, considering the upcoming national elections and the holy month of Ramadan.

The decision was taken at a meeting to settle the fair dates, which was organized at the Shaheed Munir Chowdhury Auditorium of Bangla Academy.
