Thailand's largest book fair, "The 52nd National Book Fair and the 22nd Bangkok International Book Fair," will open soon at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center from March 28 to April 8, encompassing an exhibiting area of approximately 20,000 square meters.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the event's opening ceremony on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., according to the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT), which stated on March 18.

Mr.Suwich Rungwattanapaiboon, president of PUBAT, revealed that this year’s event will be held under the concept of “Booklympics” in welcoming the upcoming Olympic Games, in which over one million books from 322 publishers will be exhibited in 914 booths, along with more than 100 activities and many highlights, including a special activity called “Bangkok Rights Fair 2024.”

For the first time in Thailand, the PUBAT has partnered with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), or TCEB, to organize the "Bangkok Rights Fair," a business matching platform for copyright trading activity between Thai publishers and international agencies.

Representatives from 34 international agencies from 14 countries, as well as 53 Thai publishers/distributors, will attend the business matching from March 28 to March 30, 2024. This action is estimated to generate at least US$10 million in copyright trade value, which is equivalent to over 351 million baht.

Furthermore, over 100 unique exhibitions and activities will be presented over the course of 12 days, from March 28 to April 8, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Hall 5-7, LG Floor, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

The event is separated into three areas: the Book Zone, the Exhibition Zone, and the Activity Zone.

Book Zone will have seven categories of books: 1. Novel, Literature, and Fiction. 2. Book Wonderlands: Comic Books and Books for Teenagers 3. Children's and Educational Books 4. Foreign Books 5. General Books 6. Old books; 7. Non-books. This historical book festival will feature over one million books from 322 prominent publishers and bookstores across the country.

At the Exhibition Zone: Cat Country Exhibition, a translated literature by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn by Nanmee Books Company Limited, Outstanding Book Exhibition 2024 by the Office of the Basic Education Commission Ministry of Education (OBEC), Phanwaenfah Prize Literary Exhibition: "Phanwaenfah Prize the finish line is not too far away" by the Secretariat of the House of Representatives, and Proud Songkran Exhibition by the National Soft Power Strategy

Activity Zone: More than 100 activities will be accessible, with the Booklympics competition as a highlight activity to look for the greatest talent in the book industry, covering five sectors. 1. Designer. 2. Writer. 3. Proofreaders 4. Top seller. 5. Best reader. Other highlights include the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand's "One Reader Inspires Million People Foundation" initiative.

This activity was designed to raise donations for organizations that promote reading but lack funding. It will provide budget support for "Buy the right books" for 20 organizations (10,000 baht each), totaling 200,000 baht, so that those organizations can buy new books on their own, and the activity so-called "Why the books are having for?", an activity that will allow readers to express their opinions.

Mr. Suwich also stated that the 22nd Bangkok International Book Fair is well underway and has received more positive comments than anticipated. Eleven world-class publishers from nine countries will exhibit at the event, with 18 booths total. These include Taiwan, Japan, China, and Ukraine. They will offer books and cultures from each nation, focusing on printing technology, culture, and language acquisition.

As part of this event, the PUBAT will host a Business Field Trip, allowing international publishers and copyright agents to immerse themselves in reading culture by visiting bookstores, printing houses, and major Thai publishers. Mr. Sanont Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, will be the honored guest speaker at this unique occasion. He will enlighten all attendees at Bangkok City Hall on the city's reading promotion policy as a world book city and UNESCO city of learning.

Additionally, the PUBAT has teamed with Wisesight (Thailand) Co., Ltd to bring the system https://wisesight.com/th/zocialeye/. This is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system for searching information. This will allow us to gather information from any social media platform where people are discussing the book fair, whether before, during, or after the event, so that we can understand the general public's viewpoints on the book fair.
