A five-year-old author is reading his own novels to library patrons during a storytime session.

Jayce Joyce, from Sutton Coldfield, began writing at the age of three, according to his mother.

On World Book Day, his illustrated books A Beach With No Sea and Jayce's Sweet Tooth were also launched.

Jayce, a Thomas the Tank Engine lover, read at Birmingham's Library on Saturday, saying he "wanted to inspire children to read and write like me."

He expressed excitement about reading his own novel, Jayce's Sweet Tooth, to participants.

Reading and writing are "fun" for him, and he enjoys nonfiction books that "answer my questions."

"Jayce started reading as young as two," claimed his mother, Anim.

"It is something which he loves doing, he is highly gifted in literacy and he is making the most out of it."

"It is mind-blowing."

She claims Jayce, a Mensa member, is the first kid author to have a storytime at Birmingham, Europe's largest public library.

"He is also using his talent to inspire as many people as possible," she went on to say.

"I am incredibly proud as a parent."
