Shillong Book Fair 2025 Ends on a Successful Note

The just-concluded Shillong Book Fair, which was organized by Padam Book Company, was an overwhelming success, drawing bibliophiles, students, and inquisitive visitors during its 18-day course from May 1 to May 18, 2025, at All Saints Hall. The fair was daily open from 11 AM to 7 PM, and admission was free for all.

Interviewing the media, Mohit Jain and Mahavir Jain of Padam Book Company — a well-known wholesaler, importer, and stockist of books — revealed their delight at the huge public response. They emphasized that books for schools, libraries, and even weight sales in bulk were offered during the sale.

One of the main attractions of the fair was its complimentary career guidance sessions for young people. "The feedback has been resoundingly good," declared Mahavir Jain. Everybody is enjoying the book fair. We are confident that it will motivate youngsters to take up civil services and serve the country well.

The central theme of the fair was to urge the new generation to find an affinity for books and narratives, providing a good means to counterbalance overuse of gadgets. With about 100 stalls, the event had books across Indian languages and genres, including fiction and non-fiction, education and children's literature.

Some major publishers present were: Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Pan Macmillan, National Book Trust India, Woodpecker, Cambridge Book Depot, and several others.

The Children's Corner was also a special highlight, with interesting activities such as:

Cursive writing classes, Musical storytelling session, Puppet-making workshop, Self-defense workshop, Caricature drawing, Vedic mathematics….and others.

Organizers have already made the announcement of the next edition of the Shillong Book Fair, to be held from February 2 to February 19, 2026, with a promise of an even grander celebration of literature and culture.
