Musikilu Mojeed, the Chief Operating Officer of the Premium Times Group, stated that Premium Times Press was established on the premise that democracy can only succeed in countries where citizens understand how power is exercised, how institutions function, and why governments do not always succeed.
Mojeed made these comments during the unveiling of The Burden of Legislators in Nigeria, a new book written by former senator Effiong Bob and published by Premium Times Press. He explained that the imprint has committed its resources to documenting Nigeria’s political history, analysing power dynamics, and preserving the country’s social and democratic governance record.
Mojeed described the author as an insider with extensive first-hand knowledge of Nigeria’s political system. He added that understanding the challenges faced by lawmakers is critical to improving democratic governance and enriching public discourse. The publication, he noted, allows readers to reflect on the pressures within Nigeria’s legislature and examine how these pressures shape democratic practice.
Premium Times Books will continue working to expand Nigeria’s reading culture, make important books widely accessible, and introduce essential Nigerian titles to a broader audience nationwide. Its catalogue spans politics, history, security, identity, and media, and includes notable works such as Naija No Dey Carry Last, The Boko Haram Trilogy, Cyber Politics, and Deepening Democracy in Nigeria, among others.
According to Mojeed, books are more than creative expressions—they are tools that help societies understand themselves, identify what works, recognize what is broken, and highlight issues requiring urgent attention. He reaffirmed that Premium Times Books is committed to impact-driven publishing, aimed at educating citizens and encouraging meaningful participation in democratic processes.
