<![CDATA[ Government School Promotes Reading with 'Reading Time' Event ]]> The Visalakshi Mills Government High School in Madurai held a "reading time" on Monday to celebrate National Reading Day and pique the curiosity of its Class VI to X pupils about books.

On a nice afternoon, the kids spent a half-hour reading books while sitting in the shade of the trees on the school grounds. A reading session led by C. Deepalakshmi of The R.E.A.D Club, Madurai, during the previous academic year inspired the program. 

Children have been encouraged to read books by The R.E.A.D Club via creative art and tale-telling (stories with a purpose). 

On June 19, Reading Day is observed to raise awareness of the importance of reading. The 'Father of the Library Movement' in Kerala, PN Panicker, passed away on this day.
