Through a GoFundMe campaign, AUPresses aims to raise an initial $6,000, which will be used to support the participation of three Ukrainian publishers at the International Convention of University Presses, scheduled to take place at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 9. The event is returning this year after a seven-year break and is intended to bring university publishers together for international dialogue, networking and discussions about the future of academic publishing.

AUPresses said that any funds raised beyond the initial $6,000 target will be donated to the Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI). The additional support will help the organisation strengthen Ukraine’s book industry, promote Ukrainian literature within the country and increase its visibility internationally.

The fundraising campaign comes at a difficult time for Ukrainian publishers. Recent Russian strikes have damaged publishing-related infrastructure across several regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kherson. Publishing offices, printing facilities, warehouses, bookstores and libraries have all been affected.

The scale of the damage has raised serious concerns across the international publishing community. According to reports cited by the Ukrainian Book Institute and other organisations, millions of books have been destroyed, while a significant portion of the country's annual book production has been disrupted.
