            <![CDATA[ <p>The 45th Chennai Book Fair witnessed a massive sale of Rs 15 crore this year. As the fair ended with a footfall of roughly around 15 lakh, the sales of books touched Rs 15 crore which is a huge spike. This was announced by the Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI)<br><br>S. Vairavan, President of BAPASI, revealed that the public response was encouraging and it was far better than last year. Thousands of people flocked to the fair and enthusiastically bought a myriad of books. While the overall sales were encouraging, a few publishers said it was due to some big and popular publications, however, there were many publications that witnessed poor sales.&nbsp;<br><br>Kannan Sundaram, a publisher from Kalachuvadu Publications, said the turnout and the sales were good. It was predominantly the youth who bought more books this year as well.&nbsp;<br>BAPASI secretary SK Murugan added that due to the book fair's weekday schedule this year, more school students attended the event than ever before.</p><p><br>The book fair, which used scheduled for January, got pushed to February-March last year and this year due to COVID-19. Compared to the usual period of 14 days, this year the book fair was held for 19 days, which included three weekends, to attract more crowd.<br><br>Vairavan added, "This year, readers purchased a greater number of titles related to skill development, spirituality, language-oriented books, and English novels. The event has grabbed people's attention."</p> ]]>
