On this day, around 3 crore 81 lakh students would receive new books.

According to Ministry of Primary and Mass Education sources, about 3 crore 81 lakh 28 thousand 354 kids from pre-primary to class nine and equivalent classes will receive free books during the book festival.

30 crore 70 lakh 83 thousand 517 books will be distributed in total. There will be 40 lakh 96 thousand 628 instructional aid books among them.

The Election Commission (EC) granted authorization for the book festival on January 1 in a letter to the Secretary of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Sunday (December 24). The EC had already requested approval from the Ministry of Education.
