This year, Padma Awards will be conferred to 119 recipients. The list comprises 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards. Of these, 29 of the awardees are women, 16 Posthumous awardees and 1 transgender awardee.  Through this article, let us have a look at the awardees in the education sector.

Padma Awards 2021: About the Awardees

1- Sujit Chattopadhyay: He is a retired teacher from Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, he is recognised over the state for his free coaching centre named “Sadai Fakirer Pathsala”.

2- Dadudan Gadhavi (Posthumous): He was a renowned Gujarati poet and folk singer. He has immensely contributed to Gujarati poetry through his work.

3- Jai Bhagwan Goyal: He has done path-breaking research and enriched Hindi Literature by bringing to light vast treasures of Medieval Hindi literature available in Gurumukhi script.

4- Namdeo Chandrabhan Kamble: A teacher and journalist, he is a well-known Marathi author. He is a prolific writer not only in fiction and poetry but also in the field of critical and philosophical writing.

5- Dr. Rajat Kumar Kar: He is widely recognised around the world as the oldest and longest living commentator of the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in both radio/television media since 1958.

6- Prof. Sundaram Solomon Pappiah: He is a Tamil scholar, television personality and actor. An unparalleled orator, he has gained fame through the ‘Pattimandram’ TV shows for the past 25 years.

7- Dr. Arjun Singh Shekhawat: He hails from Rajasthan and is a scholar, educationist, thinker and writer.

8- Mridula Sinha (Posthumous): She was the doyenne of Hindi literature and the first woman Governor of Goa. She was a prominent figure in the social, political and literary world.

9- Dr. Kapil Tiwari: He is an expert on tribal and folk culture, art and oral traditions. He has spent more than thirty years focused on the study, documentation and publication of Indian culture.

10- Prof. Ram Yatna Shukla: He is the President of Kashi Vidwat Parishad and is popularly called “Abhinav Panini” due to his contribution towards inventing new ways of Sanskrit Grammar & Vedanta teaching & modernization.

11- Dr. Srikant Madhav Datar: He is the George F. Baker Professor of Administration and Dean of Harvard Business School.

12- Jagdish Chandra Halder: He is a reputed doctor known for social service, voluntary work and service to the poor.

13- Dr. Mangalsingh Hazowary: He is recognised for his pioneering role which helped in the development of the Bodo language and culture.

14- Prof. R. L. Kashyap: He has made fundamental contributions in the field of Computer Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence, as well as in the field of Vedic Studies.

15- Balan Putheri: In spite of being visually challenged, he authored 211 books on various subjects.

16- Nanda Prusty: 102-yr-old “Nanda sir” provided free education to children and adults at Jajpur, Odisha for decades.

17- Dr. Asavadi Prakasa Rao: He is an Indian poet, critic, translator and scholar, who is known for his poetry and prose work. He is a renowned Telugu poet and Asthavadhani expert.

18- Dr. Roman Sarmah: He is a litterateur, poet, freelance journalist, dramatist and editor of 90 years old magazine “Bordoichila”.

19- Father Carlos G. Valles (Posthumous): Popularly known as Father Valles, he was a Spanish-Indian Jesuit priest and author. He lived in India for five decades and authored various books on mathematics in Gujarati.

20- Usha Yadav: She has written about 100 books in Hindi in various genres over the past five decades. Her selected works are included in the textbooks under the syllabi of Government schools of numerous states.
