David Howlett
Award-winning author David Howlett brings warmth, creativity, and heart to picture books that help families connect and grow together.on Nov 05, 2025
David Howlett lives with his family in the rolling countryside of southern England, where quiet lanes, open skies, and the family dog’s daily walks offer both peace and inspiration. His journey as a writer began at home — crafting stories for his children when they were young. What started as simple bedtime tales soon grew into a meaningful creative pursuit, giving shape to stories rooted in real emotions, childhood wonder, and the lessons tucked between everyday moments.
An author whose books include One More Does Matter Lana, and Try Your Best, Patrick, David writes with warmth and sincerity. His stories often reflect his belief that books can connect generations — a shared ritual that helps children learn, laugh, and see the world through kinder eyes. “Picture books,” he says, “are a great way to bond with children and help them learn to read.”
Away from his desk, David is just as curious and hands-on. A keen up-cycler and maker, he spends time tinkering in his garage, turning spare parts into new creations — including a full kit car built from pieces he’d saved over the years. In 2022, his creative spirit and storytelling earned him the ECA-APER Jury Award for Best Author, a recognition of his growing presence in children’s literature.
For David, storytelling remains both simple and profound — a reminder that in an age of screens and distractions, there’s still nothing quite like turning the pages of a book together at bedtime.
