<![CDATA[ The Association of American Publishers Applauds USTR for Releasing Report on Notorious Pirate Sites ]]> "The Association of American Publishers joins colleagues across the United States' copyright industries in congratulating USTR on its important work to highlight market segments around the world engaged in extremely damaging, commercial-scale infringement," said Lui Simpson, Senior Vice President for Global Policy at AAP. "The Notorious Markets report continues to be a useful tool, critical to exposing bad actor sites around the world, which, as Ambassador Tai pointed out, pose a threat to the 'economic security of American workers.'"

The report emphasises the importance of having an effective framework for dealing with infringement in order to protect the IP-intensive industries' $7.8 billion contribution to the US GDP and support of 63 million jobs. The report names infringing websites from around the world, including Baidu Wangpan, which is based in China and allows users to share links to pirated books, movies, and other content; Tokopedia, which is based in Indonesia and sells pirated textbooks as well as counterfeit clothing and cosmetics; and Libgen and Sci-Hub, which has been the subject of court orders in countries across Europe as well as the United States, and whose networks host a large number of unauthorised digital copies of books, manuals, and journals; and VK, a Russia-based site that reportedly facilitates the distribution of copyright infringing files of e-books and videos, among other types of content.
