The revised textbooks will take students on a journey through Himachal Pradesh's evolution - from its prehistoric roots to its achievement of statehood. Alongside historical developments, the new curriculum will explore the state's rich linguistic diversity, traditional cuisine, freedom fighters, Kargil heroes, political system, economy, and contemporary social and environmental challenges.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced that the revised content is expected to be finalised within a month, allowing the new textbooks to be published in time for the next academic session.

According to the minister, the initiative aims to make learning more relevant for students by connecting classroom education with their local heritage and surroundings. He said the updated curriculum would encourage analytical thinking, strengthen students' understanding of Himachal Pradesh's history and culture, and inspire them to explore the state's legacy in greater depth.

Thakur also noted that the changes could prove beneficial for students preparing for competitive examinations in the future, as they would gain a stronger foundation in state-specific knowledge.

To oversee the revision process, the government has constituted a committee chaired by the Education Minister. The panel includes the Secretary of Education, representatives from the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), assistant professors, and other academic experts.

The curriculum overhaul reflects the state's broader effort to make school education more locally relevant while preserving Himachal Pradesh's cultural heritage for future generations.
