Have your kids exhausted their home libraries? If they're looking for something new to read, don't forget about the resources at your local library. Sharon Verbeten of the Brown County Library suggests checking out some of the newest award winning children's books. She shared a few of them on Good Day Wisconsin. Verbeten says many of the awards for 2020 went to women and people of color.

Coretta Scott King Award (best YA book): Before the Ever After by Jacqueline Woodson

Caldecott Medal (Best Illustrated book of 2020) winner: We are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom, illus. by Michaela Goade (notable as the first Caldecott winner by an indigenous artist).

Newbery Medal (Best Children's book of 2020) winner: When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller; notable because this also won the Asia/Pacific American Award.

Printz Medal (best teen book of 2020) winner: Everything Sad is Untrue by Daniel Nayeri

Geisel Medal (best beginning reader of 2020) winner: See the Cat: Three Stories about a Dog by David LaRochelle

Sibert Medal (best informational book of 2020) winner: Honeybee by Candace Fleming
